Developer Explorius asked ARCADIS Landscape Architecture to draw up the urban planning.
The area has a number of existing qualities, the first of these being a long river bank providing various points of contact with the water. There is furthermore an existing road with a beautifully curved line. Lastly, there are a great many adult tress. These features are being retained, and form the plan's backbone. The island-feel is being enhanced by adding water to the western side of the area. Moreover, a space is available for each villa in one of the Naarden Island's own marinas. By keeping many of the existing trees, the woodland atmosphere on the island is preserved. New trees are furthermore being added, which will be primarily evergreens, blooming and more exotic varieties, so as to enhance the experience of the seasons and to reinforce the villa-park character. The public space is being given a minimal yet chic appearance, with red baked bricks with broad, anthracite-coloured or hardstone curbs being used for the road surfacing.
