Wageningen Universiteit & Research is concentrating its dairy-cattle experimental farms into one national centre. In a year and a half's time, the current experimental farm 'Nij Bosma Zathe' is to be adapted and expanded for this purpose, and a knowledge and learning centre is being created. We sought out collaboration with DLV with a view to its specific knowledge of cattle farming.
The Dairy Campus is being created in a special and historic landscape: the Middelzee area to the south of Leeuwarden. This area is characterised by the huge open space occupied exclusively by farmsteads with their crops as islands. The design for the Dairy Campus ties in with this feature. Space was deliberately left in the landscape plan between the campus and business park. Bodies of soil and crops were furthermore carefully "played" with, whereby there is both reference to the farmyards and special views are created, which do justice to this farmstead's specific character. This means that the outside space contributes to the Dairy Campus' image. The Q-team of the Leeuwarden Local Authority not only expressed its approval, but also its praise for the plan.
