However, the task involved not only making the site suitable for the event lasting six months, but also explicitly for its subsequent purpose: Venlo Greenpark, a high-quality business park for the horticultural sector.
The design team, headed by landscape architect John Boon (ARCADIS), designed five worlds of experience in the existing woodland. These five worlds conveyed the five themes that were central. Not only was the existing woodland integrated into the design, but the historical remains present were also included and transformed into a component of the entire experience. The result was astonishing, at times breathtaking and a real experience for young and old alike; brimming with culture, distinctive gastronomy and spectacular pavilions in a green setting. The Floriade 2012 attracted over two million visitors. They rated the park with an average of 8.5, and CNN placed it in the top ten of the most important events worldwide in 2012.
