Deltapoort Route Network

Rotterdam - The plan area is part of the Deltapoort, and the labyrinth formed here is not inviting for local residents. It is confusing, fragmented and the features are spread out and partly concealed.

Deltapoort Route Network

ARCADIS Landscape Architecture was given the task of conceiving a high-quality basic route network in this area. The route network thus adds clear quality to the area, and increases the recreational options for both residents and users. The aggregation of route structures gives rise to a major 'slow route'. It offers an overview and transparency in this busy and full environment.

The route network connects the qualities present in this area, the old village centres and panoramas, and furthermore travels over landscape features such as levees and waterways. The basic route network thus forms the connecting element between the gems this area has to offer, and is as it were the crown of the Deltapoort. Besides the spatial arrangement of junctions and bottlenecks, signage furthermore provides a means of gently guiding visitors on their journey though the Deltapoort. This will greatly increase the area's recognisability and opportunities.
