Normandy, France - The redesign of the entrance to the American cemetery and Normandy monument is complete. Arcadis France was commission by the ABMC, the American Battle Monuments Commission, to oversee the restoration of the American Cemetery and Normandy memorial. Arcadis Landscape Architecture & Urbanism (Amersfoort, the Netherlands) contributed by delivering the spatial design. A commission that we were honored to work on with the greatest respect.
The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial is located close to Omaha Beach in Colleville-sur-Mer (Calvados), one of the historic locations of the Normandy Landings on 6 June 1944 (D-Day). The cemetery was designed in the early 1950s. Arcadis Landscape Architecture & Urbanism provided the ABMC with support in the development of a new master plan for the entrance and access areas at the historic cemetery. The landscape design does justice to the importance and solemnity of the site.
